A Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office investigation has resulted in the arrest of a Lake Arthur man accused of attempting to meet a child for sexual purposes and possessing illegal narcotics.
According to the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office, detectives conducted an investigation involving 56-year-old Charles James Chiasson of Lake Arthur, who allegedly believed he was communicating online with a young girl located in Grant Parish.
Authorities said Chiasson later traveled to Grant Parish intending to meet the child, where he was instead met by members of the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators also reported that Chiasson allegedly brought methamphetamine with him during the encounter.
Sheriff Steven McCain praised the work of the investigating detective following the arrest.
“The detective did an incredible job of investigating this case,” McCain said. “This is a true predator and our communities are safer with him in jail.”
Chiasson was arrested on the following charges:
Computer-aided solicitation for sexual purposes
Indecent behavior with a juvenile
Possession of methamphetamine
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities also reminded the public that an arrest is not a determination of guilt and that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
