The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, with support from the State of Louisiana, has awarded $65,000 in Emergency Readiness Grants to 17 nonprofit cultural organizations across 11 parishes, including $5,000 to the Grant Parish Library in Colfax.
The funding is designed to help Louisiana’s cultural and heritage institutions strengthen their preparedness for future emergencies and reduce the impact of past disasters. Hurricanes, floods and other emergencies pose ongoing risks to museums, libraries, archives and historic sites across the state.
Through the Emergency Readiness Grant program, organizations may use funds to develop or update emergency preparedness plans, provide staff training, offset insurance storm deductibles, move servers to cloud-based systems, or complete repairs and improvements that reduce structural vulnerability.
The grants aim to ensure that institutions such as the Grant Parish Library can better protect their collections, facilities and services in the face of severe weather and other potential threats.
Statewide, 17 organizations received awards ranging from $1,250 to $5,000 as part of the 2026 funding cycle. The program is part of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities’ broader effort to support cultural organizations in preserving the state’s history and heritage while preparing for future emergencies.
