Samantha Lemoine: Louisiana Teacher of the Year Semifinalist 2027

Verda Elementary educator Samantha Lemoine was recognized as one of Louisiana’s 2027 Teacher of the Year Semifinalists during the 20th Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala held in New Orleans.

The honor recognizes Lemoine among the state’s top educators. For the past 13 years, she has dedicated herself to helping young learners build confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of reading. According to the Grant Parish School Board, her passion for children and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact on countless students.

Reflecting on the recognition, Lemoine said:

“Being selected as a Louisiana State Teacher of the Year semifinalist, and counted among the top 10% of Louisiana’s educators, is an incredible honor and a reminder that God can do far more than we ever imagine. This journey has given me the opportunity to reflect deeply on my teaching practice, celebrate the growth of my students, and be reminded of why I became a teacher in the first place: to love children well, believe in their potential, and help them discover the confidence to change their own futures. I’m humbled to represent my students, colleagues, and district, and I hope to continue making a difference in the lives of children for many years to come.”

Verda Elementary Principal Shannon Johnson said the school is blessed to have Lemoine serving as its new Literacy Coach this school year, noting that her passion for literacy, dedication to students, and commitment to supporting fellow educators will make a tremendous impact across the campus.

Joining Lemoine at the awards gala were Superintendent Dr. Erin Stokes, Michael Dubois, Jasmine Howard, and members of her family.

The Grant Parish School Board congratulated Lemoine on the recognition and expressed its excitement for the impact she will continue to make as Verda Elementary’s new Literacy Coach.
