Parish Public Schools posts strong academic gains on 2025-2026 LEAP assessments

Grant Parish Public Schools is celebrating another year of academic progress after the release of the 2025-2026 Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP) results, with district students posting an overall 2% increase in proficiency across all tested subjects.

District officials say the results represent one of the strongest years of academic growth in the past six years and reflect the hard work and dedication of teachers, school leaders, students, and families throughout Grant Parish.

Growth Across Core Subjects

According to the district, students demonstrated improvement in several key academic areas:

English Language Arts: Up 1%

Mathematics: Up 3%

Science: Up 3%

Social Studies: Maintained last year’s proficiency levels

The district also continues to earn statewide recognition for literacy achievement.

For the second consecutive year, Grant Parish Public Schools ranked among Louisiana’s fastest-growing districts in reading, placing 11th out of 69 school districts after recording a 21-point increase between students’ beginning-of-year and end-of-year literacy assessments.

Superintendent Praises Teachers and Students

Superintendent Dr. Erin Stokes credited the district’s success to the commitment of educators and their focus on student achievement.

“This growth didn’t happen by accident,” Dr. Stokes said. “It is the result of talented educators who have embraced high expectations and worked tirelessly every day to help students succeed. Our teachers deserve tremendous credit for these results.”

District leaders attribute the academic gains to several instructional strategies implemented across Grant Parish schools, including:

Holding students to higher expectations while encouraging greater ownership of learning.

Using high-quality, research-based curriculum with fidelity.

Regular collaboration among teacher teams to analyze student work and strengthen instruction.

Using student performance data to provide targeted small-group instruction based on individual learning needs.
Dr. Stokes said teachers have embraced new instructional approaches and remained committed to continuous improvement.

“Our teachers have been willing to reflect on their practice, learn new strategies, and make meaningful instructional changes,” she said. “Change is never easy, but our educators trusted the process, supported one another, and remained focused on what is best for students.”

Looking Ahead

While celebrating this year’s accomplishments, district leaders say they remain focused on continued improvement.

“We are proud of this growth, but we are not satisfied,” Dr. Stokes said. “Our goal is not simply to increase proficiency—it is to see more students reach mastery and leave our schools fully prepared for success. We will continue refining our instruction and learning from our data.”

Grant Parish Public Schools says it remains committed to providing every student with a high-quality education through strong classroom instruction, meaningful collaboration among educators, and a continued focus on student success.

“This is only the beginning,” Dr. Stokes added. “We are excited about where our students are headed, and we believe the best is yet to come.”
