Residents interested in homesteading, gardening, livestock management, and food preservation will soon have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience during the upcoming “Plot to Plate” workshop series hosted by the LSU AgCenter.
The workshop is scheduled for May 26, 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at B22Fit, located at 183 Larue in Dry Prong.
Organizers say the program is designed to help participants build confidence in the fundamentals of homesteading while learning practical skills related to producing, managing, and preserving food at home.
The event will feature instruction and demonstrations covering several topics, including poultry and small ruminant management practices, hands-on irrigation building, succession planting tools, and food preservation safety and techniques.
According to the LSU AgCenter, the workshop is intended to provide practical knowledge for individuals interested in self-sufficiency, backyard farming, and sustainable food production.
The registration fee for the event is $10 and includes refreshments and workshop materials.
Officials encourage residents from both Grant and LaSalle parishes to pre-register due to limited space availability.
Tyler Barlow with the LSU AgCenter is serving as the event contact. Additional information can be obtained by emailing tbarlow@agcenter.lsu.edu or calling 318-627-3675.
Organizers say the “Plot to Plate” series is part of ongoing efforts to provide educational opportunities that support agriculture, healthy living, and practical home-based food production throughout Central Louisiana.
