Grant Parish to host grand opening of Michael D. Burns Public Shooting Complex in Dry Prong

Residents and visitors will soon have the opportunity to experience one of the region’s newest outdoor recreation facilities as officials prepare for the grand opening of the Michael D. Burns Public Shooting Complex

The facility, developed through support from donors and the Louisiana National Guard, offers a wide range of amenities including an educational center, pistol range, rifle range, and skeet shooting field. Located on Landfill Road in Dry Prong, the complex is open to the public and does not require Grant Parish residency for use.

The Grant Parish Police Jury has announced a grand opening celebration for Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 1142 Landfill Road. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m., with shooting expos and demonstrations starting at 10:00 a.m.

Officials say the event will include food, prizes, and opportunities for attendees to explore the facility and participate in shooting sports demonstrations. Guests are encouraged to bring their own firearms and ammunition, provided they are unloaded and securely transported.

The complex is designed with a strong emphasis on safety, education, and responsible firearm use, while also promoting recreational shooting sports for all experience levels—from beginners to seasoned enthusiasts.

Daily access to the facility is available for $5 per person, allowing visitors to utilize the ranges and participate in activities at an affordable rate.

Community leaders describe the project as a major addition to outdoor recreation opportunities in Grant Parish, highlighting its potential to support education, safety training, and tourism.
