It was a successful day at the Louisiana State Capitol for Grant Parish and District 22, as State Representative Gabe Firment saw three of his bills advance, thanks in part to support from Grant Parish District Attorney Jay Lemoine.
D.A. Lemoine played a pivotal role in drafting HB320, a bill designed to protect correctional officers from sexual harassment by inmates. The legislation passed committee with no objections and now moves to the House floor for further consideration.
In addition, two other bills sponsored by Rep. Firment also passed committee. HB294 seeks to safeguard churches from trespassers and disruptive behavior, while HB1040 proposes revisions to the board of commissioners for the Central Louisiana Juvenile Detention Center Authority.
“This was a productive day for Grant Parish and District 22 at the Capitol,” Rep. Firment said, highlighting the collaboration between local officials and lawmakers in advancing legislation that strengthens public safety and community oversight.
The bills now move forward for additional debate and voting in the House, bringing Grant Parish one step closer to enhanced protections and governance reforms.
