Grant Parish teams aim to bring more parish pride in Week 2

Parish Pride was on the line Friday night to start the season.

While Grant High may have won the contest 14-12, this year’s game had something that hasn’t been present much in this series – competitiveness.

Before this season, Grant won the past three contests by scores of 49-13, 54-6 and 64-16.
With the Cougars being Class 4A and the Tigers Class 1A, there’s a chance schools with larger rosters can run away from schools with smaller rosters with the summer heat still bearing down.
But Montgomery had won five of the past six meetings before Grant extended its current winning streak to four.

And only one of those games – a 48-40 Montgomery win in 2017 – was a one-score game.

So while Grant High should be happy to start the season 1-0 for the fourth straight year, Montgomery surely sees plenty to build upon.

Montgomery (0-1) will attempt to even its record by hosting Pickering (1-0), whose 13-12 win against Gueydan snapped a 30-game losing streak and was the first varsity win experienced by any current player.
Pickering’s 13 points on Friday is more than half of the 25 points it scored all last season.

Grant (1-0) heads to Buckeye (1-0) for its first road trip in a battle of teams trying to improve to 2-0.
Grant, which won three games this past season, could start 2-0 for the second straight year.
Buckeye demolished Block in a 35-0 decision, the same team Grant beat in Week 2 this past season.
