Montgomery High Students advance to National Educators Rising Competition

Grant Parish is celebrating the achievements of two standout students from Montgomery High School. Sam Koss and Shelby McKay have officially qualified for the national competition after excelling at the state conference for Educators Rising, held March 13 at Louisiana Christian University.

Educators Rising is a national career and technical student organization that supports students passionate about becoming educators. The program provides competitions, leadership opportunities, and hands-on experiences to help students develop the skills needed to make a meaningful impact in classrooms and communities nationwide.

This year’s conference theme, “Preparing Educators to Lead with Compassion: Championing Learning for All,” highlighted the importance of empathy, leadership, and innovation in education—and both Koss and McKay rose to the challenge, demonstrating exceptional knowledge and dedication.

Grant Parish School Board officials praised the students for their hard work and commitment. Their success at the state level now gives them the opportunity to represent both the district and Louisiana at the national competition this June.

“Grant Parish is incredibly proud of Sam and Shelby’s achievements,” said a spokesperson for the school board. “They exemplify the dedication and passion our students bring to the future of education.”

The community is invited to join in celebrating these students and wishing them the best of luck as they compete on the national stage, continuing to make Grant Parish a leader in cultivating future educators.
