Two Texas women arrested in Grant Parish for allegedly using drone to smuggle contraband into Federal Prison

Authorities with the Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office have arrested two Texas women accused of attempting to smuggle drugs and other contraband into a federal prison facility using a drone.

According to officials, the incident occurred in Grant Parish when deputies discovered a scheme involving plastic crow decoys that were allegedly filled with illegal items. Investigators say the decoys were being dropped from a drone onto the grounds of a federal prison in an effort to deliver the contraband.

The packages reportedly contained drugs, cell phones, and tobacco products. During the investigation, authorities said the suspects admitted they were being paid $40,000 to carry out the smuggling operation.

Deputies arrested Melanie Jean Worthington, 38, of Joshua. She was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute, and Taking Contraband into a Penal Institution.

Also arrested was Kassy Marie Cole, 41, of Hurst. Cole faces charges of Possession of Synthetic Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Taking Contraband into a Penal Institution, and an outstanding warrant.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue working to determine whether others may have been involved in the attempted smuggling operation. Officials remind the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
